Davao City bring Christmas Holiday to Lumad Communities

Christmas time is for children and it is also a good time to remember Christmas as a festival of lights. But behind the glittering lights, glamour gifts, fashion new dresses and sumptuous food we always think of the welfare of our less brothers and sisters.

Davao City will bring Christmas celebration this year to the outback communities of lumads. This is an 'added extravaganza' for this year Pasko (Christmas) Fiesta celebration.

It has been an advocacy of the City Government of Davao to extend help, favor and give protection to the Lumads communities, by providing shelters, food, and social and medical services as they come down and join the festivities in the city.

Starting December 1, they are still welcome to join the celebration and still the Davao Local Government Unit will provide them food and other services for 10 days in six different shelters.

The services will also be brought to their respective communities in Marilog, Paquibato, and Baguio Districts starting December 7 to 21. This is the first time that the services will bring the PASKO FIESTA special program to their respective barangays.

Pasko Fiesta for the lumads include a trade fair featuring the indigenous products, health day, birth registrations, mass wedding, children's day, tribal games, and cultural shows.

There would be a 'make over' or they called in their native language "BALIHUDNOY" for Lumad women. And this is for FREE!!!

“They will be gently herded back to their respective barangays where various activities are prepared entirely for them,” Maria Luisa Bermudo, Head of the City Social Services and Development Office (CSSDO) said.
“This is also to ensure their safety while we are celebrating Christmas,” added Bermudo.

One way of giving back our warm greetings to our Lumads brothers and sister, making it more meaningful and relevant to them, and that they are also part of our Christmas celebration.

PASKO FIESTA sa DABAW

Just recently, December 2, the Pasko Fiesta sa Davao was formally opened by Mayor Inday Sara Duterte-Carpio. She urge the private sector to participate and light up its premises and/or establishments so the city will look more festive.

The celebration is for all not only for the Lumads but there are also other activities been slated for children, persons with disabilities (CICL), children living with HIV-AIDS, LGBT, children in conflict with law, prostituted women and senior citizen.

This is annual event here in Davao City to lift the Filipino tradition of celebrating Christmas.

Strange Woman Premonition Before the Roxas Bomb Explosion #Mystery #RoxasBombing

Premonitions can come in different forms, it might be a dream or a nightmare. Or some may call it "gut feeling" and/or "intuition".

The Roxas Night Market explosion happened on September 2, Friday, rocked the entire city's and leave a mark that every Dabawenyos will never forget. As this moment, reported dead is 14 and 60 others injured.  Some netizens who survived the tragedy in Roxas Night Market has its eery stories to tell:

According to them, strange woman approached them asking for money, and because Dabawenyos are kindhearted, most of them give money to the woman. After the woman received the money she warned them to go home early because a strong earthquake will happen. Minutes by then, there was a big explosion and loud bangs and shout heard all over Roxas Night Market, specifically at the massage area.

Premonition, Prediction or Foreboding whatever it is, the incident already leaves a fearful fact. But we will not falter, we will rise up!

Davao will RISE UP SOON! No FEAR!

Dabawenyos won't be affected by the acts of terror in the city. We refused to be cowed or be consumed by fear. We did not want evil to win. ~ Sec. Jesus Dureza, Presidential Adviser for the Peace Process.

Davao City is the only city that takes pride the unique and diversified culture of tribes, that is why we celebrate with the United Nation -- the International Day of the World's Indigenous People every 9th of August as we take honor, respect and protect their cultures and traditions.

And as we celebrate Kadayawan this coming August 15 (OPENING happened at People's Park, 5PM), we must also take pride of our tribal and ethnic roots. And to give thanks for a bountiful harvest. Indeed DAVAO LIFE IS HERE.

Starting tonight, August 3, 2016, vendors are not allowed to put their stalls to their designated places. No more street food and drinks, stalls selling shirts, souvenirs, the ukay-ukay and the massage therapist services. The area will be close unless the vendors will follow the rules.

Video here explaining WHY the CLOSURE

From the City Information Office:

Mayor Sara orders closure of 'night market'
Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio has ordered the closure of the popular night market along Roxas Boulevard, citing a number of violations committed by the vendors.
The order to shut down the street bazaar was upon the recommendation of City Traffic and Transport Management Office (CTTMO) Chief Rhodelio Poliquit.
Duterte said that the order will be implemented starting Thursday night, August 4. Around 700 vendors selling food, accessories, and ukay-ukay will be affected by the order.
"I have ordered the closure of the night market because of a number of violations and complaints," said the mayor in an interview Wednesday.
The vendors, she said, have been very defiant of the rules and regulations set by the city government.
The following are the issues and concerns she cited:
1. Vendors refuse to follow the one-family-one-stall rule
2. Vendors insist on their preferred locations
3. Presence of stalls that are run by financiers but managed by dummies
4. Vendors sub-leasing stalls to others
5. Vendors who claim they were able to buy or secure rights or permits over their preferred stalls, insisting on selling their products even if they are not included in official list of allowed sellers
Last year, the city earned P5.47 million in taxes from the nightly bazaar -- over a hundred percent increase from the P2.24 million figure in 2014. From January to March this year, the city has already earned around P1.75 million from the night market.
Mayor Sara said she will not reopen the night market -- even if the city is earning from it -- unless the vendors will follow the rules.
"The vendors must follow our rules. It is not the other way around. If they cannot follow the rules, I will never reopen the night market," she warned.
"Yes, the city is earning from it, but we cannot bend over backward and be soft on these vendors just because the city is earning from their activities. They need to follow the rules," she added. | CIO

Davao City to Host the Southeast Asian Games in 2019 #SeaGames #DavaoRegion #DavaoCity

Cheering for another great news after Davao City Mayor Duterte become the first President of the Philippines coming from Mindanao, Davao City to host the 30th Southeast Asian Games in 2019.

With Brunei's withdrawal, the Philippines had expressed its interest to host the said events. In 2005, Philippine hosted the Games and emerged as the overall champion.

Last July 10, 2015, The Philippine Olympic Committee(POC) announced that the Manila will be hosting the Games. However in July 2016, following the proposal of the POC Chair Peping Cojuangco, it was changed from Manila to Davao City and later approved by President Rodrigo Duterte.

VENUE

Aside from giving Davao a spotlight of this game as a host in sports they want also to give Davao as a general tourism destination, this would help boost tourism progress in the region.

Instead of building new facilities, the Philippine Sports Commission planned to use the existing sports facilities tapping the use of private facilities such as the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City and the Philippine Sports Stadium and Philippine Arena in Ciudad de Victoria, Bocaue. And Davao del Norte Sports Complex is among the prospect venues just in case Davao City falls short.

And as for this week, the team is now checking the first phase of Davao City Sports Complex located on a 20-hectare site of the University of the Philippines Mindanao campus and the 10-hectare sports-hub located inside the University of Mindanao and lastly the 70,000 seat King Dome built by the church of Pastor Apollo Quiboloy.
