16-storey CROSS will SOON erect on Odet Island Davao

Odet is located just beside the elegant Malipano Island which is part of the world-class Pearl Farm Beach Resort complex in the Island Garden City of Samal (Igacos).
The project is initially estimated to cost at least P50 million.
“Odet” was the name given to the island by its original owners, the late Eduardo Bangoy and spouse Evangeline. It was transferred to Diaz through a lease contract with option to buy in 1974, together with another lot, a parcel of Malipano Island only several feet away.
“Odet” is about 9 kilometers from Davao City on the mainland and can be seen from the bell tower of the St. Peter’s Cathedral on a clear day.
If the project pushes through, Diaz said he would like to rename the 3,771-square meter island “No Man Is an Island Foundation Philippines 2012, Inc.” after the foundation which would be tasked to manage the affairs and finances of the structure in the future.
With the planned content and design of the 16 floors, the structure can evolve into a shrine and a major one-of-a-kind tourist destination in this part of the country.
The plan calls for an elevator from Basement 1 to the 16th floor and the giant cross could be seen from a great distance by incoming ships going to the Davao port and by aircraft about to land at the Davao International Airport.
The idea behind the multi-storey cross/cum huge lighthouse was approved by no less than the late Davao Archbishop Antonio Ll. Mabutas who celebrated mass on the island on February 11, 1992.
