AN AVIATION school in the Philippines will have the grand opening of its fifth campus in the country on May 23 in Davao City.
The Asian International School of Aeronautics and Technology (AISAT) will initially offer more than 10 two-year and short-term courses in aeronautics and hotel and restaurant management (HRM) at the opening of classes in June.
AISAT Davao president Albert Pingoy said it took them some four years before completing the school's latest expansion project.
Pingoy said they established their first aviation school in Mindanao since Davao is the premiere city in the southern part of the country and a hub to surrounding provinces.
The school has complete training facilities, including brand new tools and equipment that enable students to learn beyond basic learning.
Pingoy said they have provided facilities for HRM students and a simulation room for flight attendant students.
Other facilities include engine shop, sheet metal shop and mechanical skills shop, among others.
"Kasagaran dire moadto pa og Manila. Mas mayo man nga ihatag nato ang pareho nga scholastic standards (Usually, students go to Manila to get education. It's better to bring the same scholastic standards nearer)," Pingoy said.
He said around P50 million was allocated for the construction of the school, which is located at the corner of Sta. Ana Avenue and Leon Garcia St.
The school has over twelve 60-square-meter air-conditioned rooms with flatscreen televisions to allow the use of multimedia as an educational tool for teaching.
"We are ready to accommodate up to 1,200 students," Pingoy said, adding that he saw the need for more graduates inclined to aeronautics with the acquisition of new aircrafts by many airline companies worldwide.
"We need pilots. We need flight attendants. We need aircrafts and aircraft avionics," he said.
Every airline needs some 80 to 100 personnel to fly an aircraft, according to Pingoy.
He added that they have tied up with different companies to ensure that their would-be graduates will find opportunity in the airline industry.
"Our target is to provide employment. We help them in their placement," Pingoy said.
The AISAT president said the airline industry has a deficit of 660,000 aircraft maintenance technicians, 72,000 pilots and 300,000 flight attendants in the entire country Pingoy said they are also eyeing foreign students.
Other AISAT schools are situated in the cities of Bacolod, Iloilo, Clark and Manila.
